If you are new to forex, read these guides in order. Pips come first, because spreads, pip value and profit are all measured in them. Lot size tells you how much each pip is worth to you. Leverage and margin explain how a small deposit controls a large position, and the margin call and stop out guide shows the point at which a broker starts closing your trades. Spreads, swaps and ECN versus STP accounts then cover what you pay to open and hold a trade.

Each guide uses worked numbers, mostly on EUR/USD, and points out where brokers set their own rules, such as margin call levels and the daily swap time. They are written in plain English and assume no prior knowledge. Nothing here is a trading recommendation: CFDs and margin forex are high risk, and most retail accounts lose money. When you are ready to look at real accounts, our broker reviews show the fees and the company you would sign with.
