Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Nothing on this site is financial advice.

Short answer: Vantage is a real, licensed broker, operating since 2009 from Sydney, with companies regulated by ASIC, the FCA, CIMA, the FSCA and the VFSC. But clients of its global website sign with Vantage Global Limited, regulated in Vanuatu, not with its UK or Australian companies. That means no compensation scheme and no guaranteed negative balance protection. Treat it as a licensed offshore account backed by a group with tier-1 licences elsewhere, not as an FCA or ASIC retail account.

Is Vantage legit? Licensed since 2009 under ASIC, FCA, CIMA, FSCA and VFSC; global clients sign with the Vanuatu entity; one ASIC undertaking in 2018

What “legit” can and cannot mean

“Is Vantage legit?” covers three different questions:

  1. Is it a real, licensed company? Yes. Several Vantage companies hold licences you can check on regulators’ registers.
  2. Does the licence protect you? Only the licence of the company that holds your account. For most international clients that is the Vanuatu entity.
  3. Will you make money? No broker answers that. CFDs are high-risk, and most retail traders lose money.

Which Vantage company holds your account

Entity Regulator Reference Who it serves
Vantage Global Limited VFSC (Vanuatu) Reg. No. 700271 Global website clients
Vantage International Group Limited CIMA (Cayman Islands) SIBL 1383491 Scope not confirmed
Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd ASIC (Australia) AFSL 428901 Australian clients
Vantage Global Prime LLP FCA (UK) FRN 590299 UK clients
Vantage Markets (Pty) Ltd FSCA (South Africa) FSP 51268 South African clients

Vantage’s regulation page is unusually direct: by opening a global account, you are opening it with Vantage Global Limited, regulated by the VFSC and not the UK FCA. The same page lists what you do not get:

  • guaranteed negative balance protection
  • FCA leverage limits
  • the Financial Ombudsman Service
  • the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
  • FCA client-asset protection

Check the entity named on your account application and client agreement. That name, not the logo, decides your protection.

What a Vanuatu licence means

The Vanuatu Financial Services Commission licenses the company, but it is an offshore regulator. Compared with the FCA or ASIC for retail clients, it typically means:

  • No compensation fund that pays out if the broker fails.
  • No leverage caps like the 30:1 limit on major pairs that ASIC and FCA retail clients have, which is why Vantage can offer 500:1 or more (see the Vantage leverage guide).
  • No independent ombudsman such as the UK Financial Ombudsman Service for complaints.

None of that makes Vantage a scam. It means your safety net is thinner than the Vantage brand’s Australian and UK licences might suggest.

Regulatory history

In June 2018 ASIC accepted a court-enforceable undertaking from Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd, after finding inadequate systems and controls in its CFD business, including a senior employee’s use of confidential client trading information. We found no later ASIC action against the firm.

India’s central bank lists Vantage as an unauthorised platform (see below). Separately, the UK FCA publishes a warning about a clone firm using a name similar to Vantage. Clone firms copy a real broker’s name to take deposits, so reach Vantage only through a link you trust and check that the client portal is at secure.vantagemarkets.com.

Is your money safe?

  • Segregation: Vantage says client funds are held in segregated trust accounts with top-tier Australian banks, separate from company capital.
  • Insolvency: if Vantage fails, the Help Centre says funds “will be treated according to our legal policies” and points to its legal documents. There is no compensation scheme for global clients.
  • Insurance: Vantage describes an excess-of-loss insurance policy that pays only on insolvency and says it is not a deposit protection or compensation scheme. We could not confirm which entities it covers.
  • Negative balance protection: an automatic service exists for eligible accounts, but Vantage says it is not guaranteed at its international entities.

How Vantage makes money

Vantage markets its Standard STP account as bypassing a dealing desk and Raw ECN as unaltered pricing. Its client agreement, however, says Vantage may act as principal and counterparty to your trades and does not have to hedge each one. This is common among CFD brokers, but it means Vantage can profit when clients lose. Read the “no dealing desk” wording as marketing.

Withdrawals: the practical test

A legit broker should pay out on time. Vantage publishes clear rules: free withdrawals except international wires (20 units), a $30 minimum and 0–5 business days by method. It names the common reasons for rejection: insufficient free margin, wrong details and third-party payments. Read our full guide to Vantage withdrawals and test with a small withdrawal before you deposit more.

A 6-point checklist before you deposit

  1. Confirm the entity on your application and client agreement.
  2. Check that entity’s licence on the regulator’s own register, not on a broker page.
  3. Use the real website and the portal at secure.vantagemarkets.com, to avoid clone sites.
  4. Turn on the security authenticator for withdrawals.
  5. Start with a small deposit and make a small test withdrawal.
  6. Keep leverage low and size trades with our lot size calculator.

Is Vantage available where you live?

Vantage’s registration guide says it does not serve residents of jurisdictions “such as Canada, China, Singapore, the United States”, or of FATF-blacklisted and sanctioned jurisdictions. US applicants must declare they are not US citizens or residents. A newer Help Centre page drops the named countries and refers only to FATF, sanctions and local law, so check the current list before you register.

India: Vantage is named on the RBI Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms (updated 19 November 2025). Under FEMA, Indian residents may trade forex only in permitted currency pairs through RBI-authorised persons, recognised Indian exchanges or RBI-authorised platforms. If you are in India, weigh this legal risk before opening an account.

Other broker reviews with a different entity setup: AIMS (Labuan entity), Libertex (MAEX Limited, FSC Mauritius) and TW Trading (Vanuatu licence, ASIC investor alert).

Bottom line

Vantage is legit: a licensed, long-running broker with clear published rules. Its weak point is structural. Global clients sign with an offshore Vanuatu entity, so the FCA and ASIC licences on the group do not protect them. If you need tier-1 retail protection, look for a broker that will place you with an FCA or ASIC entity. If you accept offshore risk, verify your entity, start small and test a withdrawal first. For costs, accounts and platforms, see our full Vantage review and the Vantage minimum deposit guide.

Yes, in the sense that Vantage is a real, licensed broker that has operated since 2009, with companies regulated by ASIC (Australia), the FCA (UK), CIMA (Cayman Islands), the FSCA (South Africa) and the VFSC (Vanuatu). The catch is that clients of its global website sign with Vantage Global Limited, regulated in Vanuatu, so they do not get FCA or ASIC protection.

Is Vantage a scam?

We found no evidence in the sources we checked that Vantage is a scam. It is licensed in several countries and publishes detailed help documentation. Its main risks are the offshore entity used for global clients and the 2018 ASIC undertaking over systems and controls in its Australian business.

Is Vantage regulated by the FCA?

Vantage Global Prime LLP is regulated by the FCA (FRN 590299), but Vantage's own regulation page says that clients of the global website open accounts with Vantage Global Limited, regulated by the VFSC, not the FCA. Is my money safe with Vantage?

Vantage says client funds are held in segregated trust accounts with Australian banks, separate from company money. For global clients there is no compensation scheme and negative balance protection is not guaranteed. Vantage also describes an insurance policy, but says it pays only on insolvency and is not a compensation scheme.

What happened with ASIC and Vantage in 2018?

In June 2018 ASIC accepted a court-enforceable undertaking from Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd after finding inadequate systems and controls in its CFD business, including a senior employee's use of confidential client trading information. We found no later ASIC action against the firm.

The UK FCA has published a warning about a clone firm using a name similar to Vantage. Always reach Vantage through a link you trust, and check that the client portal is at secure.vantagemarkets.com.

Does Vantage accept clients from my country?

Vantage's registration guide says it does not serve residents of jurisdictions such as Canada, China, Singapore and the United States, or FATF-blacklisted and sanctioned jurisdictions. US applicants must declare they are not US citizens or residents.
