AvaTrade vs Vantage (2026): Deposits, Fees, Leverage and Protection Compared
Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Nothing on this site is financial advice.
Short answer: Both are long-running brokers that put global clients under an offshore entity. Vantage asks for less to start (50 vs 100), lists more account types and has no inactivity fee in our sources. AvaTrade charges a 50 inactivity fee after 3 months, but publishes a clearer entity table and a compensation scheme for its European entity. Neither gives UK or EU compensation cover to a global client.

The AvaTrade figures come from our AvaTrade deposits and fees guide and leverage guide. The Vantage figures come from our Vantage review.
Cost to start and to keep
Vantage’s 50-unit entry beats AvaTrade’s 100, and Vantage offers a Cent account for very small balances. On AvaTrade, one page lists 500 for wire deposits, while two others say 100, so confirm the wire figure first.
The bigger difference is idle accounts. AvaTrade deducts 50 after 3 consecutive months of non-use, again every 3 months, and 100 after 12 months. A $100 account left alone would be empty after 6 months under those terms. Vantage’s pages that we reviewed show no inactivity fee, though it charges 20 units on international wire withdrawals and a 3% fixed fee on conversions inside its funding account. See the Vantage withdrawal guide.
Leverage and risk
AvaTrade’s European retail clients get 30:1 on major pairs and 2:1 on crypto. Outside the EU the caps do not apply, but we found no single full FX figure for the BVI entity. Vantage lists 100:1 to 500:1 in its Help Centre, up to 1000:1 on its website in eligible countries and unlimited by equity on Premium Unlimited. Higher leverage multiplies losses as fast as gains, so size positions from your risk, using our lot size calculator.
Vantage says negative balance protection is not guaranteed at its international entities. AvaTrade’s comparison page says negative balance protection applies, while our review says retail accounts only.
Protection and regulation
| AvaTrade | Vantage | |
|---|---|---|
| Regulators listed | Central Bank of Ireland, CySEC (DT Direct, not re-checked), ASIC, FSCA, FSA Japan, ADGM, Israel ISA, BVI FSC | FCA, ASIC, FSCA, CIMA, VFSC |
| Global client entity | BVI | Vanuatu |
| Client money | Segregated, per its comparison page | See the Vantage review |
| Retail protections for global clients | None of the European ones | No FCA limits, FSCS or Financial Ombudsman |
Vantage’s regulation page says opening a global account means you open it with Vantage Global Limited, “regulated by the VFSC and not the UK FCA”. AvaTrade says a non-European entity means no European client protections and no Investor Compensation Scheme cover. Read is AvaTrade legit and is Vantage legit.
Who each suits
- Small starting balance: Vantage, because of the 50-unit minimum and the Cent account.
- Occasional trader: Vantage, because AvaTrade’s idle fees can drain a small balance.
- Wants a European regulated entity, where eligible: AvaTrade, since its Irish entity lists a compensation scheme, though UK residents cannot use it.
- Wants high leverage: Vantage lists more, but the risk of rapid losses rises with it.
India: AvaTrade and Vantage are both named on the RBI Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms (updated 19 November 2025). Under FEMA, Indian residents may trade forex only in permitted currency pairs through RBI-authorised persons, recognised Indian exchanges or RBI-authorised platforms. AvaTrade’s own support centre lists India among the countries it does not accept.
Bottom line
Vantage is cheaper to start and has no inactivity fee in our sources. AvaTrade has a longer record and a clearer entity table, but its 50 inactivity fee after 3 months and offshore BVI entity count against it for casual global clients. Neither has the protection of an FCA or EU account for you. Check the live figures, start small and only deposit money you can afford to lose.
