AvaTrade Review 2026: Regulation, Fees, Accounts and Risks
Advertiser disclosure: we may earn a commission if you open an account through our links. It does not affect our assessment. How we make money
Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Most retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. Consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Nothing on this site is financial advice.
Note for India: AvaTrade is not authorised by the Reserve Bank of India to offer forex trading to Indian residents and appears on the RBI Alert List of unauthorised platforms. Under FEMA, Indian residents may trade forex only in permitted currency pairs, through RBI-authorised persons, recognised Indian exchanges or RBI-authorised platforms. If you open an account with an offshore broker, you do so at your own risk. RBI Alert List
AvaTrade does not accept clients from your country, so we don't link to it here. See other brokers, and always check that a broker is authorised where you live.
Traders who want a long-established broker with MT4, MT5 and its own app, plus options and AvaProtect
Residents of the US, UK, India and other excluded countries, and clients who rarely trade and would pay inactivity fees
Offshore BVI entity outside the EU, inactivity and administration fees, and a long list of excluded countries
How this review was made: we analysed AvaTrade’s support centre, published pages and regulator registers as of September 2026. Some AvaTrade pages could not be opened in full when we researched, so figures for fees and leverage should be confirmed on the live page before you deposit. This edition does not yet include our own live-account measurements.

Is AvaTrade safe and legit?
Short answer: AvaTrade is an established broker with regulated entities in several regions. Which protections you get depends on which AvaTrade company holds your account.
AvaTrade entities and regulators

| Entity | Regulator | Reference | Who it serves |
|---|---|---|---|
| AVA Trade EU Ltd | Central Bank of Ireland | C53877 | EU clients |
| Ava Trade Markets Ltd | BVI Financial Services Commission | SIBA/L/13/1049 | Clients outside the EU |
| Ava Capital Markets Australia Pty Ltd | ASIC | 406684 | Australia |
| Ava Trade Japan K.K. | FSA Japan / FFAJ | FSA 1662 / FFAJ 1574 | Japan |
| Ava Capital Markets Pty Ltd | FSCA | 45984 | South Africa |
| Ava Trade Middle East Ltd | ADGM FSRA | FSP 190018 | UAE |
| ATrade Ltd | Israel Securities Authority | 514666577 | Israel |
What this means in practice:
- Clients outside the EU register with Ava Trade Markets Ltd (BVI). AvaTrade’s own support centre calls this an “offshore platform” (source).
- AvaTrade states that signing with a non-EU entity means no EU retail protections, such as leverage caps, and no Investor Compensation Scheme cover (source).
- There is no Cypriot licence. CySEC lists AVA Trade EU Limited only as a cross-border firm supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland (CySEC register).
- The ADGM register confirms the Middle East entity is active and records a penalty on 9 June 2022 for breaching Common Reporting Standard regulations (ADGM register).
How AvaTrade makes money
AvaTrade calls itself a market maker, with an in-house dealing desk that fills all trades (source). It earns from spreads and overnight swaps. This is common among retail CFD brokers, but you should know it.
Client money
AvaTrade says client money is held separately from company funds (source). We could not confirm any private insurance cover, and compensation schemes apply only through the EU entity.
AvaTrade is a long-running, multi-regulated broker. But clients outside the EU sit under an offshore BVI entity, without EU retail protections or compensation cover, so it is not equivalent to an Irish, EU or Australian retail account.
Accounts and costs
AvaTrade offers Retail, Professional and Islamic (swap-free) accounts. The minimum deposit is 100 in your account currency, and AvaTrade recommends 1,000 to 2,000 to use its full product range (source). The base currency cannot be changed after the account is opened.
AvaTrade says EUR/USD spreads are “as low as 0.9 pips” with no commission on trades.
Fees you should know

- Inactivity fee: 50 in your account currency after 3 consecutive months of non-use, repeated every further 3 months (source)
- Administration fee: charged after 12 consecutive months of non-use (source)
- Overnight swaps: charged on positions open at 22:00 GMT, with a triple charge on Wednesdays
- Currency conversion: the FX spot rate plus or minus about 0.25% (source)
- Withdrawal bank fees: AvaTrade covers bank-transfer fees up to 100, and anything above that is deducted from the amount sent
If you trade only occasionally, the inactivity fee can quietly drain a small account. Either trade at least once every 3 months or withdraw your balance.
Islamic account: no swaps for up to 5 days, then swaps are charged. Crypto is not available, and requests take 1–2 business days (source).
Leverage, margin call and stop out
Leverage depends on your entity and client type (more detail in AvaTrade leverage and account types):
- EU retail: 30:1 on major FX pairs, 20:1 on minor pairs, gold and major indices, 10:1 on commodities and 2:1 on crypto (source)
- Professional accounts: up to 400:1 on FX
- Non-EU accounts: up to 200:1 on indices. We could not confirm the full FX leverage for the BVI entity, so see AvaTrade’s regulation comparison page
Stop out: 50% of margin for retail accounts, and 20% for professional and non-EU accounts. The largest losing position closes first (source).
Negative balance protection: retail accounts are covered through a “negative balance adjustment”, professional accounts are not (source).
Leverage does not improve your strategy. It only changes how fast losses hit your account. Use our lot size calculator to size trades from the amount you can afford to lose.
Deposits and withdrawals
- Methods: cards, wire transfer, and Skrill or Neteller depending on your country
- Deposit times: cards instant (a first card deposit can take up to 1 business day), e-wallets within 24 hours and wire transfers up to 10 business days (source)
- Withdrawal times: processing takes 24–48 hours once your account is verified. After that e-wallets take about 1 day, cards up to 5 business days and wire up to 10 business days (source)
- Rules: because of anti-money-laundering rules, money goes back to the original funding source first, and other methods must be in your own name
Platforms, demo and AvaProtect
- Platforms: WebTrader, the AvaTrade app, MT4, MT5, AvaOptions and AvaSocial, plus DupliTrade and ZuluTrade for copy trading (source)
- Demo: no time limit, up to $100,000 in virtual funds, on MT4, MT5, WebTrader and the app
- Instruments: 1,250+, including CFDs on forex, stocks, indices, commodities, ETFs, crypto and bonds, plus vanilla options
- AvaProtect: you pay a fee upfront and losses on a chosen position during the protection period are refunded, minus the fee. The fee depends on expected volatility, trade size and the length of protection (source)
Bonuses
AvaTrade says it offers a welcome bonus “from time to time” on a first deposit, but it “may not be applicable in your jurisdiction”. Withdrawing bonus funds requires a large trading volume within 100 days, or the bonus is cancelled. We could not confirm whether a bonus is currently live for non-EU clients, so read the terms before you opt in.
Is AvaTrade available in my country?
AvaTrade’s support centre says it does not accept clients from Belgium, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, the USA, New Zealand, Russia, Belarus, Lebanon, Yemen, the Isle of Man, the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey, Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, the Palestinian territory and India (source). The list changes, so check that page before registering. AvaTrade also says it is not regulated in the USA and does not accept funds from the US.
India: AvaTrade’s own list names India as a country it does not accept. AvaTrade is also named on the RBI Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms (updated 19 November 2025). Under FEMA, Indian residents may trade forex only in permitted currency pairs through RBI-authorised persons, recognised Indian exchanges or RBI-authorised platforms.
UK: the UK appears in the same list of excluded countries, so we do not show AvaTrade sign-up buttons to UK visitors.
AvaTrade alternatives
| If you want… | Compare |
|---|---|
| Very low entry and simple accounts | Exness review |
| Raw-spread pricing and TradingView | Vantage review |
| Tier-1 retail protection | Brokers regulated by the FCA, ASIC or CySEC for retail clients |
Other broker reviews with a different entity setup: CMC Markets (Bermuda entity for international clients), Riyadex (FSCA-authorised South African FSP) and Libertex (MAEX Limited, FSC Mauritius).
Bottom line
AvaTrade is a long-established broker with spread-only pricing, several platforms, a demo account with no time limit and regulated entities across many regions. Its support pages explain the rules clearly.
The trade-offs are just as clear. Clients outside the EU sit under an offshore BVI entity with no EU retail protections, idle accounts pay an inactivity fee of 50 after 3 months, and a long list of countries, including the US, UK and India, is excluded.
Our recommendation: a reasonable option for active traders in eligible countries who understand the offshore-entity trade-off. Occasional traders and anyone who needs tier-1 retail protection should compare alternatives first.
